What is Autoload and how does it work?

Autoload is a method for automatically loading your MensaCard Emeal at cafeteria/canteen cash registers of Studentenwerk Dresden. Your card is charged via SEPA direct debit. If your set minimum balance is exceeded when paying with your MensaCard Emeal, the cashier will ask you whether you wish to add credit to your card. If yes, your preset recharge amount will be credited to your card and withdrawn from your account per direct debit.

Should you be unsure whether your account has ample funds, you can decline to use the Autoload feature or pay in cash if your MensaCard Emeal does not have sufficient funds for your meal.

An example: You have preset a minimum balance of 5 euro and a recharge amount of 20 euro. When purchasing a meal at the canteen, you reach your minimum balance of 5 euro and the cashier asks whether you would like to charge your card. You consent, and your MensaCard Emeal is credited with your preset recharge amount of 20 euro which are withdrawn from your account per direct debit. You decline, and the meal price is deduted from your MensaCard Emeal without recharging or you can pay in cash in the case of insufficient funds.

Autoload is a cashless, secure and simple service that will save time at the canteen. You can also view all activity on your MensaCard Emeal over the last 90 days on the online portal at www.studentenwerk-dresden.de/mensen/kartenservice so you’ll never lose track of your funds. The online card service can be accessed by Autoload users only.

How do I register for Autoload and what is required?

Example 1: You can set up Autoload at a canteen service point as well as at selected cash registers. You will need your MensaCard Emeal, a photo ID as an ID check and a valid EC debit card issued in your name.

Example 2: You can also set up the Autoload function online. You will receive a password after you present a photo ID and your MensaCard Emeal. Once you have received your password, you can log in at www.studentenwerk-dresden.de/english/mensen/kartenservice with your MensaCard Emeal number and password to set up your Autoload account. Follow the online instructions.

Where and how can I charge my MensaCard Emeal per Autoload?

You can charge your MensaCard Emeal per Autload upon request during checkout when your minimum balance is reached. This means you no longer have to wait in line at reload machines.

What is the online card service?

A password-protected online portal is available at www.studentenwerk-dresden.de/english/mensen/kartenservice. The service provides an overview of card activity during the last 90 days as well as a function to set your minimum balance and recharge amount. You can also change your password, revoke direct debit authorization or block your card. Only Autoload users may access the online card service.

What is the minimum balance and recharge amount?

Your minimum balance is the amount of money that once reached will prompt a cashier to ask you to recharge your card. Your recharge amount is the amount of money that will be credited to your MensaCard Emeal balance via direct debit from your account. You can set both amounts.

Can I change my minimum balance and recharge amount?

You can determine your minimum balance and recharge amount when you set up Autoload at a canteen service point. These amounts can be changed at any time later using the online card service portal at www.studentenwerk-dresden.de/english/mensen/kartenservice.
